Hello
On a test machine we didn,t have this, but on my work Laptop, I get a dialog with -You cannot use the administration program while the domino server is running. Either shut down the server or choose the icon labeled Lotus notes instead- when I try to run LN client.
I have no server running, and did kill all notes hreads with killnotes.
How can I solve this? Have anybody seen this?
Help
Thanks in advance

Subject: 7.0.3 client says I have to stop the server
I haven’t looked at the tech note- probably should- but we had that error on laptops that didn’t have enough network rights. When logged in as a user w/ admin rights, it worked fine.

This is a common issue… and is usually always related to a folder restriction. Make sure that the Windows user has rights to the “Lotus” folders.

It worked out that this was indeed the issue. But shouldn’t the installer respect the settings on that user folder on that moment. The notes data folder was changed to read only. Also B.t.w it wasn’t the data folder but the Lotus folder with the applications.
And why didn’t happend before with the 7.0.2 installs?
A colleage did install 7.0.2 and no problems, and then the 7.0.3 over it. And then the same trouble.
We didn’t check right now the setting per file, but its difficult to know what settings are the right one for each file, because some executables could start another with less privileges.
Some comments?

We’ve see the same difference between 7.0.2 on Vista and 7.0.3 on Vista. It seems, so far, that you must completely disable User Account Control to install and configure Notes 7.0.3. The release notes for 7.0.3 seem to indicate this.
It’s unfortunate, because regardless of how annoying the pop-ups are from UAC, it could provide some additional security. Not sure why they made this change…
UPDATE: Apparently there’s an SPR to address the UAC issue in the 7.0.4 client because they do realize that UAC is a core security “feature” of the OS. My contact was surprised that 7.0.2 worked correctly in Vista, and indicated that 7.0.2 was essentially released before Vista was available. 7.0.3 was apparently the first version fully tested under general release versions of Vista, so they must have run into issues and set the “disable UAC” directive.

for what its worth, 7.0.4 still requires uac to be disabled. !
