Is the 6.0.x series going to continue? Or will all new features go into the 6.5.x series and they will simply be patching the 6.0.x series as time goes by?

Yes.

No new features implemented in 6.0.x, only in 6.5. I imagine no new features will go into 6.5.1 either, only patches from now on. I imagine new features will only go to the 7.x release.
