3rd party anti-spam plugins for Notes and Domino

I am writing a book on ways to fight spam. I would like to hear from the Notes/Domino community experiences you have had with the various 3rd party anti-spam plugins available, for both the Notes client and the Domino server.

Some 3rd party plugins that I am aware of include (this is by no means a comprensive list!):

* Brightmail

* Eagle Technology Consultants (Spam Eraser)

* Granite Software (spam Jam)

* May Flower Software (Spam Sentinel)

* Sybari Software, Inc. (Antigen 7.0)

* Trend Micro Inc. (Scan Mail)

What anti-spam plugins are widely used? What have you found that work? Which ones need improvement? Which ones would you recommend?

Subject: spamJam rocks!

I don’t use it directly, but have worked with a number of companies who use it very successfully. What is particularly nice is the configurability for individual users, and the cascading set of filters is well thought out.

TM ScanMail may work for small < 100 user companies but it is not ready for prime time in large Notes shops. You have to manually configure 90% of the rule sets and the spam db they provide will block only about 30-40% of spam. The false positive rate is really low but so is the block rate.

I use a product called ClearMail by Corrigan Consulting. It is whtelist based and does a great job of not only controlling my spam, but stopping my users from having the ability to open virus attachments. I’d highly recommned it to everyone.

SpamJam works very well for me. The people there are great at helping me to configure those few emails that the filter does not catch… I have been rolling it out to my users over the past year & everone loves it!!

Check out www.mailfrontier.com for an anti-spam server solution for Notes. Very little adminstration and it blocks a very high rate of spam with a great way to handle false positives and phishing attacks.

I just released the latest version of Spam Dam, a challenge/response system that works quite well to block unwanted spam while requiring NO administrative support and very little user intervention.
