'You are not authorized to perform this operation

Hi,I do replicate my application from Server-A to Server-B. In Server-A, it is working fine.

In Server-B, one particular person is unable to save the document. When that person is tried to save the document, it throws following error,

'You are not authorized to perform this operation"

At ACL, he has “Editor” access. He is in both “Readers” field and “Authors” field.

Can you help me what may be the issue?

Murugan,

Are ServerA and ServerB in the same hierarchy? If not, and if your user’s name is stored in the Author field flat, then he would only be able to edit the document on a server with his same hierarchy.

If you think this might be it, check out the article I recently wrote on DeveloperNetwork, as it goes into some detail.

Raphael,

Very useful for those using author and reader fields. Thank you very much for such a nice article.

Thanks for responses.

  1. ServerA and ServerB are in different domains.

  2. Readers and Authors field, names are stored in the “Comman name” format.

  3. Before save the doc, I trigger “ComputeWithForm” for that doc. I checked this. becos it is working fine at ServerA.

  4. There is no specific sccurtiy at the form level.

I will tell the issue again,

In Server-B, one particular person is able read the document and edit the document. But he is unable to save the document. When that person is tried to save the document, it throws following error,

'You are not authorized to perform this operation"

As per Raphael’s advise,

I will be changing from Common name format to Canonical name format.

But the question is, user is able to edit the document in serverB. Only saving the document is issue.

Thanks,

Murugan

Is he able to open the same document in Server A ? And are you sure he is available in Readers,Authors Field ? How do you fill these readers/authors fields ? If its thru script, make sure its filled as readers/authors value instead of string or list.

If you provide more information, we can shed some light on this issue.

Question:Is he able to open the same document in Server A ?

Answer:

He does not have access to Server A

Question:

And are you sure he is available in Readers,Authors Field ? How do you fill these readers/authors fields ?

Answer:

He is available readers/Authors field. Even though I do not have access to Server B, I could see the document in Server A. Becos that doc is replicating to Server B.

Readers/ authors field filled thru Formula. It is a list only

It can’t be a problem with the readers or authors fields. If it was a problem with the readers field then they would not be able to see the document and the authors field will have no impact on people with editor access.

Are they able to put the document into edit mode and receive the message when they try to save the document? Is the enforce consistent acl setting set so that the person has editor access on server B?

This is a a standard error message but it might be worth checking that there isn’t any code in the QuerySave or onSubmit events that is displaying this message if they are not a member of a specific role.

Or, is there a specific security setting on this form?
