You are not authorized to perform that operation

Am running the 8.02 full admin client (problem happens in both the Standard and Basic version) with a 7.02 mail template against a 7.02 server. At some point almost every day, when doing normal work in my mail file (deleting a message, opening a new message) a popup error message comes up that states “You are not authorized to perform that operation”. To clear the problem I normally have to close the Notes client down and re-start it. Any ideas?

Subject: ACL Issue?

I’m not sure I’m on the same page with you, but I get a lot of these from the ACL’s and when the refresh, they wipe out my access. I have to make sure my ACL’s are proper on the templates. Not sure that helps…

Subject: ‘You are not authorized…’

I agree with Steven. We have had numerous issues like this, but mostly from the Web mail side. Seems it normally always is an ACL issue. I’m not the admin and not sure what he does to ‘fix’ it, but template settings sound like the culprit.

Subject: You are not authorized to perform that operation

I don’t think it’s an ACL thing. What happens is I’m using my client (V8.02) against my mail file (7.02 template on a 7.02 server). I’m doing “normal” stuff (opening messages, replying to messages, creating new messages, etc.). All at once, I get a popup message that says “You are not authorized to perform that operation”. At the time this happens, I’m not always doing the same thing. Sometimes I get it when I try to open a new email message I just got. Sometimes, it’s when I am trying to delete a message I don’t nees anymore. At this point, I then get this message on everything I try to do until I shut down my Notes client completely and then start it back up. This is happening almost every day and sometimes happense 3 or 4 times in the same day.

Subject: Just an Update

A couple of weeks ago, I updated our servers to v8.02. I’ve updated my mail template to V8.02. So, I’m now in a pure V8.02 environment. I’m still having the issue. It doesn’t seem to happen as often, only a couple of times a week maybe.

Subject: Finally Found the Answer - McAfee

We use McAfee for our anti-virus software with their EPO management tool. We accidently started rolling out version 8.7 viruscan to all our users (I had installed it on my machine back in October/November to test, but we had never decided to go live with it for everyone so it wasn’t configured correctly). It had the email scanning turned on. This causes all kinds of havoc with Lotus Notes (the not authorized message, some illegal circular messages, some actual Notes client crashes). I had turned off the emai lscan on my machine, but it modifies the notes.ini file to put hooks in and these were never removed from my machine. When McAfee ViruScan 8.7 started rolling out to everyone, clients were crashing left and right. We figured out what was causing the problem and fixed it (turned off the email scan and manually removed the 2 lines in the notes.ini :AddinMenus=MCMenu

EXTMGR_ADDINS=NCExtMgr).

Subject: How can we do this automatically

Hi,

Does anybody knows how to remove thoses lines automatically from all users notes.ini ??

With the policies you can only add or modify notes.ini settings but not remove lines …

Thanks
