XPages Slow

I am trying XPages for a new application. This is a pricelist application displaying 400 records at a time for price update. I am using Xpages with Repeat Control and documents as data source. But its terribly slow. Each time when i try to load the Xpages, it takes 15,20 seconds to load.

I could have easily developed this application using DHTML,XML and had it fast. I thought XPages will bring something new. But i am disappointed.

Is there any setting that would make Xpages fast ? Please advice.
