Subject: XP SP2 and crashing client 6.5

It sounds like you may have problems with your multi-user installation.

Make sure that any files required by the Notes Client (desktop6.dsk, notes.ini, names.nsf, cache.ndk etc…) aren’t stored in secured locations (eg. people’s home folders on a server or secured folders on C:) as that can sometimes cause the Notes Client (and other programs) to crash. If someone who doesn’t have access to one or more of these resources OR other system files because of security permissions tries to run the program, they may have trouble. You might have to change local (C: drive) NTFS permissions to fix these issues.

We are running Notes 6.5 on machines with XP SP2 with no problems. I always use single-user install. After removing all other versions of the client, you could try that. Give everyone full access to the Notes folder and its subdirectories in order to rule out file permissions and possibly XP SP2 as the culprit.

Maria:

I’ve personally found Notes on XP to be much more stable than on Windows2000 Professional. I believe more than one client on a workstation is not a supported configuration, but people do report successfully using that configuration (including me)!

I cannot help with your NSD, but if it is possible I would recommend removing all but one Notes client, and making it the most current version (6.5.4 or 6.0.5) to see if that resolves your issue.

Hopefully these generic suggestions will help if nobody can pinpoint your problem in the NSD file you provided.

Good luck!

Subject: RE: XP SP2 and crashing client 6.5

I am running all three Notes clients on an XP/SP2 laptop with no problem at all. I agree with the response that reccomends making sure all Notes config files are in their proper place and that the user has Admin access. You should also go over the Notes.ini to make sure all config settings are correct.

Subject: Solved!!! - XP SP2 and crashing client 6.5

Thanks all for the help…

The problem was the FONTS !!! There are a lot (1400) fonts install at the machine…delete the “extended fonts” and the problems was solved.
