I,m new to lotus notes 8 and i have one question about this.
Is it possible to use youre sidebar instead of youre workspace and place the icoons of youe applications into youre sidebar.

The Workspace does not run in the sidebar but I do agree it would be nice to have a workspace (app browser/launcher) available there all the time.

Subject: create your own
You can easily create a db with a simple form with all the relevant links.
This can then be tailored by roles to display the correct links depending on the person viewing it in a corporation.
I’ve got one that has a link to ‘my email’ and ‘my timesheet’ (we have a different timesheet db for each person). So people hotdesking (we don’t use proper roaming) always have the correct links.
Just create the form and then create a widget from it and push it out to the widget catalog
