Working with the Out of Office info

I have a request from a number of users to be able to display who is in the office for the day and who is out of the office. Since I haven’t worked with the Out of office settings, is this possible?

Also, the users have asked that if a document is requiring a person’s approval and they are on vacation, can the document be sent to someone else in their abscence. Again, has anyone done this, or is it possible?

  1. Last time I looked, and it has been a while, there was a checkbox in the OoO profile that would block out the owner’s time in their calendar when they were going to be away. Dunno if it’s still there.

  2. I’ve done something slightly similar. I’ve got a scheduled agent in a workflow database which will automatically push documents along to the next approver in the cycle if they aren’t responded to promptly. I imagine you could build something like that, but you’d need to check the user’s mailbox to see if they were currently away, or perhaps see if their OoO agent was active.
