For the last few months I have experienced a problem whereby double clicking on a Word attachment in Notes successfully loads the document into Word but at some time after that, minutes to hours, Word gives a whole string of errors complaining about not being able to access the file, missing floppy, bad network connection etc. The only way out of this is to Force quit Word. I started a thread on the Mactopia Word forum and this now has around 20 replies with two other Notes/Word users complaining of this. The problem exhibits in all versions of Notes 8.5.1 and 8.5.2CD5, all versions of Word 12.2.x and in OSX 10.6.3 and 10.6.4. A user has tested on OS X 10.5.8 with Word 12.2.x and the problem does not exist. It only happens with .doc attachments and not .docx, if you define Pages as the default application for .doc then the problem goes away. If you use Apple Mail client to the Notes server (as IMAP4) the problem persists. It seems that around OS X 10.6.3 some sort of incompatibility was introduced between OS X/Notes and or Domino/Word. Through various tests my current best theory is that Notes/Domino Server is passing some sort of deprecated Type or Creator code which is causing Word a problem. It would be appreciated if anyone experiencing this issue can add information to this or the Mactopia thread.
