I thought I’d document my issue here to help anyone else having problems opening Microsoft Word attachments.
Issue:
When opening MS Word attachments, Word is showing the background screen for the session based login.
Fix:
Open Word, go to Tools>>Options, click on the “General” tab, and uncheck the “Allow background open of web pages” option.
