Wish List for Next Release

Contacts Database: After dealing with numerous issues concerning Recent Contacts, I would like to make a few suggestions for the next version. Maybe these have already been implemented/suggested, however here goes.

While I understand the benefit of Recent Contacts, I don’t like the fact that we have no control over the process.

Here are a few suggestions I have:

  • It would be nice if we were able to control what entries are in the Recent Contacts view by:

    • selecting the date to use as a starting point. Any emails after this beginning date should be added to the Recent Contacts view.

OR

 - selecting a dynamic range to use as a starting point such as emails <= 1 year, emails <= 6 months, etc.

OR

 - selecting a specific database to be used to build the Recent Contacts; i.e., mail, archived mail, chat, etc. In my tests, my Recent Contacts is pulling email addresses from my Archived Mail too. Another test pulled addresses from a separate spam email database that I had opened one time -- this is not even my mail database.

I understand there are preferences that can be set to not allow the Recent Contacts to be built, but this causes other problems with our Blackberry’s and syncing, so we can’t do that. And, asking all of our users to periodically go through their Recent Contacts view and clean up any incorrect emails will just not fly. Some have over 1000 entries.

As I said before, this is just my wish list. Maybe I missed something, somewhere and these are already possible.

Create Local Replicas: Another thought…what about being able to create local replicas from the File - Open - Lotus Notes Application dialog box. Instead of bookmarking the server database and then creating a local replica from there, why can’t we select the databases that we want and create local replicas from all those selected? This would make the process of setting up local users faster.

Subject: Recent Contacts

I’m agreeing more and more with comments and suggestions. I like your feedback ideas about a cut off date, keeping recent contacts indefinitely is a BAD idea. If someone uses it that way they may as well have them in their real contacts.

I know there is a notes.ini parameter that can be used to disable the use of recent contacts, but I’d like to see a more dynamic policy in place. I want to disable it by default, but allow users who are aware of what they are doing, to enable this option again.

I would also like to have a way to clear the recent contacts on behalf of the users. We’ve picked up the code to send a button out and that’s a relatively easy way to distribute the “fix” for unwanted recent contacts, but ideally you could turn the feature off and purge the existing in one simple step.

As it stands we’ve implemented the notes.ini parameter via policy and won’t be able to accomodate users who want the feature. We’re also forced to educate them all on how to clean this up since most users weren’t aware of how these contacts slipped into their type ahead.

The feature has merit, but it’s still lacking… it far too easily grabs and keeps too much that is confusing (yes, when someone sends a mail to “mom” and copies you in, you’ll start seeing their mom as an option when you send mail - that particular scenario tripped up a couple members of our support desk, but what can you do…)

Subject: Recent Contacts

We have 40 domains, and users keep moving from one domain to another, you can imagine what Recent Contacts is doing to us !

Can it be configured to update the records instead of keep adding new ones…
