Dear all,
One of my Director receive mail from external, the content of message can be read and a winmail.dat attach.
The strange thing is his secretary also receive the mail but no winmail.dat attach.
Can somebody know what happen ?
I use Winmail Opener to open, the dat is the content of the message
The IBM told that upgrade to R6.5.6 or R7 is the solution.
Please advise.
Michael
Subject: Winmail.dat
The reason that one person gets the winmail.dat file and the other does not is that the format of the message/attachment is based on the how the person is defined in the sender’s address book. One solution is to have the sender change this setting for your director.
Notes 7 does automatically convert winmail.dat files, but make sure that you use 7.02 fixpack2 - there were bugs in the earlier implementation that have just been resolved in this latest fix pack (and least the documentation says it is resolved - I have not test it). Note that the conversion is done by the mail server - upgrading the client only will not address your issue.
Finally, there is a wonderful utility written by Julian Robichaux that allows you to send a winmail attachment to a mail-in database on your server and receive a converted attachment in return. You can find it here:

Stuart, interesting? we are using 7.0.2 FP2 and just happened that one of our users receive message with winmail.dat file and server has not conver it, is there anything special that needs to be done on the server site as far configuration to get this working? also Yes we have used in past database you are refering from sandbox but in this particular case (email received today) sending winmail.dat database returned “Error Processing Attachments”
