Windows 2000 latest client

Hi all, have upgraded our iseries from 7.02 to 8.51 that went a treat but although I can install the 8.51 client its does not work and chucks out an xml error when I try and run it on any windows 2000 pcs, its works fine on XP.

The 7.02 client works fine without issues (with the server running at 8.51)but I was wondering what is the latest client that supports windows 2000 or is there a way I can install 851 on windows 2000 users ?

  • I hope so! I use XP exclusively, so sadly I can’t help you.

  • If no one else helps you, you may consider running R8.5.x in a VM. That should be overkill, but if there are driver incompatibilities this could “virtualize them away”. If nothing else it could be done as a test to see if it makes a difference, for one more piece of information. VirtualBox is OSS from Sun and as you say “it works a treat” with R8.5.x, at least on XP. (frown)

Hope this helps…

Subject: LN851 on W2K : my first guess is : “no way, no point”, but …

I haven’t tried it, and frankly I haven’t seen a W2K client in ages. If I were there, my thought would be :those W2K clients are due for decomission soon, in the meanwhile users can live happily with a LN7 client / LD85 server (save for an occasionnal glitch here or there)

last dich effort to strech the life of those legacy hardwares could be to upgrade them to XP (or even Seven, check the specs), but then again you may have some sort of legacy software that can’t upgrade to XP ?

or, you could set aside a small Domino 7 server …
