Window Z order

Hi All,

We are using software linked into our telephone system which displays callers details on screen. It can also be used to dial numbers selected within an application (in this case a phone number in a Notes mail). What it does is allows us to select the number, hit CTRL-INS and then it will dial the number. This relies on notes being the ‘top’ window. This works fine with 6.5 and in fact 8.5 Basic (and every other application we use) but with 8.5 Standard, the phone application doesn’t appear to recognise 8.5 as being the top window, and brings the 2nd window up instead and tries to grab the number from there. The assumption I make therefore is that, as the standard version loads Notes2.exe in the background that this is in fact not a ‘real’ window and cannot be seen in the Z order. Looking in Task manager, I see that NlNotes is loaded then Notes2.exe so I’m assuming that nlnotes is the ‘real’ window but has no UI so cannot be loaded.

is there anything that can be done to make XP recognise the phantom window in the Z order?

I hope that makes sense ;-).

Any thoughts

Regards

Cath
