Have just installed the domino designer 8.5 on Windows Vista I seem to be getting the following error message when flicking between forms \ apps\ views etc… in the designer
"An error has occured. See error log for more details.
org.eclipse.swt.SWTException."
on clicking details I see “Widget is disposed”
This error occurs only after I’ve locked and then unlocked windows.
If I restart the notes client and designer the error disapears until I lock windows again.
In order to avoid this error, I minimize all the Lotus Notes 8.5 and Lotus Designer windows before locking my PC using CTR-ALT-DEL. A fast way to do this is pressing “Window Key” and M at the same time.
I use Notes 8.5 in different computers and “Widget is disposed” don’t appears in all of them.
Customers are very worried about this, it will stop migrations.
Subject: Widget is disposed - No as much of an issue in FP1
For myself, this issue has [mostly] gone away after upgrading the Designer client with Fix Pack 1 (FP1).It was stated that the problem was addressed in 8.5.1, but evidently FP1 provided enough changes to prevent the issue from occurring [as often].
Incidentally, I was receiving the error on my system regardless of locking the desktop… it would just flip out on its own.
UPDATE: Well I actually received this error again for the first time after a number of weeks without seeing it. There are slightly different symptoms in that the toolbars are not getting removed in the Notes client… instead they are not visible in the Designer client… this occurred after opening a notes db in the designer client directly, that I had downloaded from the Domino Designer Wiki.
I had seen this problem quite a bit when I first upgraded to 8.5 but don’t recall it happening (or at least happening much) once I was running 8.5.1.But I can say that I recently updated my machine to FP1 for 8.5.1 and began seeing this issue again. And much like the previous post, it is the Designer toolbars that disappear, but it is all 3 clients that are impacted an become unusable.
I’ve experienced this error since the beta releases, and I still experience it. Although restarting all clients will temporarily relieve the problem, I’m not sure of any more permanent fix, other than perhaps deleting (or moving) the data out of your workspace folder. Before deleting the entire workspace folder contents, you can try just deleting the logs folder (C:.…\Notes\Data\workspace\logs) which in some cases has proved beneficial for me with other issues. I’m having to do this again as we speak. If the error persists, perhaps I will open another ticket with IBM (I have others that are still unresolved for 8.5).
Subject: re. Widget is Disposed (org.eclipse.swt.SWTException)
Happens to me all the time. I’ve crashed this way twice already today. The new Designer appears very buggy.
I just tried deleting the entire “Workspace” folder and restarting (after backing it up). Guess I’ll see if that accomplishes anything or is it just a placebo that makes you feel as if you are at least trying to address the issue, without actually helping.
There absolutely should have been a hotfix released to handle this issue. I was told the following in late April 2009: “SPR DMAS7QHVND covers this ‘Widget is disposed’ issue and will be fixed in Notes 8.5.1”
I literally end up restarting Notes & Designer about 5 times a day. This is unacceptable. 8.5 eclipse version is the worst development experience I’ve ever had with Lotus Notes since I started working with the product in 1990. The 8.5.1 release remains too far out into the future to have to put up with this painful problem so often every single work day!
Subject: RE: Widget is Disposed (org.eclipse.swt.SWTException)
We’re keeping all our users at 7.x for the foreseeable future for exactly this sort of reason. And the errors happen so frequently that it’s obvious that either (a) IBM/Lotus rammed this out the door because of some sort of obligation, or (b) they (or some influential part of their organization) don’t give a damn, or (c) their testing folks live on another planet. (Frankly, of the three, (c) would be really cool because it would be proof of extraterrestrial life! But I digress…)
Unfortunately the reason is irrelevant, this software is junk, and until it’s fixed we have many compelling reasons not to upgrade.
