Why upgrade to Domino/Notes 8.5.1

Hello,

we have slowly started to talk about Notes/Domino 8.5.1 and if we should prepare an upgrade as soon as possible. Currently we are on 8.0.2. People here are abit “nervous” about the upgrade as it is a “quite big jump”…From 802-851. Huge… Ofcourse this is not the case and not a difficult upgrade (at least I would say so…).

But I need to collect info and reasons why to upgrade to the upcoming release. Have been searching for some info about it but really havent found anything. Anyone out there already having this information.

Need info like savings when using DAOS, ID Vault, server performance, client performance and new functions/features.

Hope you can help me so we can get the upgrade a bit closer…

Thanks, Kjeld

DAOS and IDVault in and of themselves are each reason enough to upgrade to 8.5.1 but I know you want all the numbers and testimonials of those already using… e.g. Just yesterday I reset someone’s password they had forgotten in like less than 30 seconds and had them back in business in under a minute… Everyone’s milage will vary but DAOS and Document Compression allowed me to postpone additional requests for more diskspace by gving me back on average between 40% and 50% of used disk space on my mail servers…

Subject: upgrade to get support

We upgraded following advice from Lotus themselves from 8.0.2 to 8.5.

Didn’t fix the issue but at least we got support.

Also are you running new Notes clients, it was the advice of Lotus to upgrade to match versions despite the fact that the older ones are compatible.

I havent tested iNotes (DWA) in Domino 8.0.2 because we upgraded all our servers early this year to 8.5 (without any hitches and 12 in under a couple of hours) but we are considering turning off iNotes 8.5 unless we get a response from IBM about some of the security holes we’ve found, so I cannot recommend upgrading unless you’ve tested DWA iNotes in 8.0.2 and are happy it suffers from the same problems.
