Why upgrade the Notes-client from v5.x to ND6?

Hi

Does anyone have any good arguments to why we should spend time and money on upgrading the clients from V5 to ND6? Where is the big advantages in doing so? Our servers are alredy runnig 6.5.

I suggest the general overview demo, as well as the product specific Lotus Notes and Domino Web Access ones. (Developers should also watch the Designer, LEI, and WebSphere Studio toolkit ones.)

Subject: several reasons…

As Ben mentioned, the UI is much and much better in ND6. Especially the mail ui is much much more intuitive to work with. That’s a big benefit for users new to Notes. With R5 people were often a bit uncomfortable with the mail interface. Maybe they got used to it, but they never loved it - this has changed with ND6, from my perspective.

Plus, if clients and servers are on ND6, you can use compression on the network ports, improving networking performance by anywhere between 10 and 50%.

And if you’re planning on deploying ND6.5.1, you can have the embedded IM awareness at no extra charge, too

There’s more, but this is a start.

Heh heh, where to start? Well, for me, all the new features, the improved UI, the faster re-written @formula engine (and asscoaited functions) – these alone make the upgrade worthwhile. Add vastly improved stability to the mix and I’d say you have to go for it.

There are plenty of pieces on the new features for more in-depth analysis. Have a scoot around LDD Today and the lotus.com pages.

Our users winged that nd5 did not look like outlook and did not have some of the features. ND6 keeps them happy. get folder unread counts, feature to remove attachments from emails easier than r5. And all of the earlier comments…
