Why doesn't my domino server recognise ! in urls

urls using ! as in !openimageresource don’t work but ?openimageresource does… On another server both ! and ? work. Is there a server setting to allow ! to be used

Subject: Yes

There is a server setting … Server document → Internet Protocols → Domino Web Engine → “Make this site accessible to web site search crawlers”, set this to Enabled and restart HTTP
