Why are URL's not represented as hotspots on appointments?

Our users started complaining about this as soon as we upgraded their mail templates to 8.5.1 (from 7.0.2).

The preferences have certainly been set to “Make internet URLs into hotspots”.

It all works when they create a new memo. They can use “Ctrl - E” on a draft message to get out of edit mode and follow the link to open the URL.

It certainly works in their old (7.0.2) mail template.

The hotspots are certainly generated for any meeting invitees as well, and they can follow the link to open the URL.

However, the document author has lost the ability to follow the hotspot URL link in an appointment document, even after switching out of edit mode.

Is there something that we’re doing wrong here?

Can anyone suggest a solution for this.

It seems a rather minor issue, but one that has been reported by our users several times in the last week alone.

Cheers!

T.

PS:- Just another calendaring issue that bit us…

Obviously, the body of the calendar documents has changed significantly. In the old template, you could insert a tab character in the body of a calendar entry by simply pressing the tab key. Somewhere between R7 and R8, the Appointment form was changed so that the body field is now located within a tabbed table. Unfortunately, the tab key is used for navigating from one tab to the next, even if only one tabbed table row is visible. In the new design, you must use “ctrl – tab” to insert an actual tab. The tab key now places the cursor at the top of the body field, and “shift – tab” places the cursor at the bottom of the body field.

… just in case that helps anyone else out.

Subject: Also occurs for me too

I just tried it using Notes 8.5.1 in an 8.5.1 mail template and had the same issue with appointments.

Subject: well …

I have modified the standard R8.5.1 calendar template to generate Appointments with URL links in the body. Invitees see the link directly. When I open an invitation I created, the document is in edit mode, and links are inactive. When I switch out of edit mode, the links become active.

So something must be wrong in your environment or design.

Subject: Re: well …

It sounds like you have some process that creates appointments programmatically. It could also be a difference between adding the URL in the UI and doing it programmatically.

Subject: Appointments not meeting invitations

As the original poster made clear, the problem is with appointments, not meeting invitations.

Subject: what’s the difference?

well … Appointments and Meetings use the same form - the difference is the content of a single field (AppointmentType).

Subject: Which is then used…

in umpteen different places in the form to control what appears. Obviously some combination of things is causing something odd to occur.

Subject: not happening for me

so you need to look again at your setup. Most important - are you sure that you are getting out of edit mode? Try to change a field.

I confirmed this in Notes 8.5.1 against Domino 8.5.1. This was a clean install of both Domino and the client, not an upgrade.

I created an appointment with a URL in the body. I saved it and reopened it. It goes into Edit mode, so I pressed Ctrl+E to switch to read mode. The URL in the body is not underlined and I cannot click it. I closed the appointment and looked at it in the Preview pane. The URL is underlined and I can click it from the Preview pane.

Next I created a meeting with a URL in the body and repeated the above steps. After I saved the document and reopened it in edit mode the URL was underlined but not clickable. I switched to read mode and the URL was clickable. The URL was also clickable from the Preview pane.

There is definitely a difference in how the Body is rendered in Appointments versus Meetings, and in the Preview pane versus full document view.
