Where does the Script library codes execute?

Hi,I have a simple question about the codes in the Lotusscript Library, is the codes exucuted on the server or on the client’s local machine?

Because I have created a code which is a view action button, the codes are in the Script library, the codes are run a little bit slower, if the codes are executed on the server which the project runs on, then that will be affect other users, but it is executed on the user’s local machine, it will be OK, Does anybody know the codes(script library) are executed on the server or local?

Thanks a lot,

The code runs wherever the calling code is running. That is, an action or an agent that is being run by the user will run code in a script library locally, and server-based agent will run the code on the server. That doesn’t mean the code is necessarily “safe”, since if it needs to do a lot of work with server-based objects, it may still present a performance problem for other users, particularly if this is code that a lot of users are running frequently.

Hi,Rogers:Thanks a lot for your help,

Can you explain a little bit details? I am still confused.

Is that means all of codes in LotusScripts library are executed in the user’s machine?what is the server-based agent?what’s the server-based objects?what’s the codes that a lot of users are running frequently?

The codes I wrote basically is a view action button, when user select one or many documents from the notesuiview, then it will create another associated document(s) from the backend. Is this running on local?

By the way, can you tell me where can I see the detail documentations about these issues?

From Notes.net or somewhere else?

Sorry for the confusing, and thank you very much for your help,

It is highly impolite to address a person by surname alone. If you are unsure how to use a name, ask before using it at all.

Designer Help has all the documentation you need.

My answer was clear enough – an action runs locally, but it may need to talk to the server. Agents that the user starts manually also run locally, and also may need to talk to the server. Server-based agents are agents that run on the server – either scheduled or called with the RunOnServer method.
