Where are the view icons?

I know that the view icons are stored in the data\domino\icons directory.

That said however, the icons that actually get displayed are different (and nicer). I would like to create a key that explains what the icons mean, but they are so different in some cases that I think it would be confusing.

So where are THOSE icons stored?

From the sandbox…

Those Icon files are used if you are serving up the view as a Web page.

If you are displaying the view in the client, they are resource items in the .DLL’s. (i.e. Not generally customizable)

Thanks. I’m just using them in a standard Notes view (display as icons column)

I didn’t want to customize – just use them for a key.

It’s just driving me crazy that they show up differently in the view than what we have locally.

Thanks!

Ah - I have a litte Flash application called ViewIcon that shows you them all with their numbers.

You can get it from WorkFlo Systems on their main page.

thanks – that is a very neat little tool.

But it has the same older icons that I have locally, not the new ones that actually show up in the view on the Notes Client.

Thanks again.

Those are the only build in Icons (as far as I know. Did Notes 7 add others ???)

Now a given database might have image reslources in it’s design that are shown in a view, but that’s not Notes - it’s the database’s designer who created those.

Nope – this has been happening since I upgraded to 6.

The icons that show up on your notes client and the icons that show up on the web are the same for you?

I’m not talking about anything special – just the standard, notes, out of the box, view icons.

For example, if program the view to display 50 (the floppy disk) I get the green disk that shows up in the help file – exactly what you would expect.

But if I look in the icons directory for vwicn050.gif, I only see the old grey, R5 looking icon. This is what shows up on the web.

Yes, some of the icons are different.

Subject: RE: where are the view icons?

Ah - now I see what you mean. It looks like the “client” icons have been changed (improved ?) but not the file/web versions.

If you look in the Designer Help, Index, Icons, there’s a document with the following table …

That seems to be up to date for the R6 client.

Subject: RE: where are the view icons?

yep. But if I wanted to access those icons? Where are they?

As I said in my first reply, they are resource objects stored in a *.dll file somewhere. If you have a resource browser you should be able to locate them in one of the Notes DLLs
