What program command is the same as Shift F9

I have some database views that are supposed to show documents for today only.

Works if I hit F9 each day to rebuild the view. Or if in the designer client I have it discard the view index after each view.

Neither of which is ideal.

What I would like to do is setup a program document to at like 1 am to run the proper update/updall command to update all databases in a folder.

I am not quite sure which command would work correctly. Not quite sure what the real difference between update and updall is.

From the help is seems that running updall -V folderpath would do the trick but wanted to verify this.

Thanks

Avoid having @now / @today in view selection formulae like the plague. Do anything to avoid it.

The simplest way is to have the view categorised by date and then restricting the display to category, specifying today.

You can also use an agent to update the selection formula in the view’s design. Schedule the agent to run just after midnight substituting today’s date into the selection formula.

John,

The update task is going to ignore time/date sensitive views. Does yours have @Now/@Today in it? Or are you using @Text() or some other formula to mimic that functionality?

If the former, then I’d probably run an agent to get a handle to the view and force a refresh. If the latter, then a program record should work fine, but note that you need to rebuild the view, not refresh it.

In truth, in either case you are rebuilding it but a time/date sensitive view will always rebuild when you try to refresh it, whereas the other kind of view will refresh but not trip to the next day without a rebuild.

load updall dbname.nsf -r -t “viewname” is the syntax for rebuilding a view, I believe.

Hey Rapheal,

I am using @text of @today for the views. Basically I have a few databases that are all tied together and have quite a few views that need to show data for just the current day.

A refresh does not work, rebuild does it.

Anyway I tested out a program document and that worked using.

Updall directory -V

Thanks
