What kind of address is this "John.Smith/something/ACME @ ACME"? (notes or internet mail address)?

Hi,

I know a name (John Smith) can be used as a notes mail address and the server resolves what to do with it. I also know “John.Smith@acme.com” is an internet mail address. What kind of address is this “John.Smith/something/ACME @ ACME”?

I ask because… I recently did my first piece of “web development” (web users fill out a form, there are few validations, and the rest of the app workflow I do through the notes client - as per requirements).

But upon the submission of the web form, I had to notify a person - with a doc link (must be a NOTES doc link, because the rest of the workflow must continue through the client.) Initially I used their internet mail address, and the doc link was disappearing. But then, I remembered seeing “John.Smith/something/ACME @ ACME” (in a team room, when adding participants, and you click to retrieve their information from the address book), and I tried it. The notes doc link got sent. So obviously, I sent mail from the web, but it did not go through the internet.

Does anyone know exactly what it is, and how it works?

Thanks for your time,

Rachel

“John.Smith/something/ACME @ ACME” looks to me like a Notes Name of a Person who’s Lastname is “John.Smith”, and he has no Firstname. It could be also a Mail-In database name in Notes.
