I’m pretty new to Lotus Notes, and there’s an icon I have never seen before. In the inbox view, in the same column that I usually see the paperclip attachment icon I have an email that shows an icon that looks like a telephone or fax machine. Can someone tell me what it is?

If it is what I think that it is, it’s showing you that the user is connected to Sametime as a Mobile User.
You should be able to find the icon in the Client Help, under Managing Your Online Status.

From client menu, Goto File —> Preferences and then click on Customize. You see a bunch three columns of icons. Go to the 13th column and see if you are having the icon there by the side of “Call Server”. Google it or try to find in help documentation for that.
