What is the difference between Mail rules and before mail arrives triggered agents?

As far as the server is concerned what are the differences? As far as I can tell both types of code are exectued by the router, rather than AMGR.

Do they have the same impact on CPU. If all my users created a rule to auto file a message to a folder based on the subject, is that any different to me creating a before mail arrives agent to do the same thing?

Is there somewhere I can try to predict what the impact would be on adding a standard auto filing before mail arrives agent to about 850 mail files on one server?

I found the discussion of this topic in the Agent FAQ, in the article called “Out of the inbox”. Rules are limited in scope, agents can do much more. Rules are more lightweight.
