It’s clear that all the bookings that are being made now between the 2nd Sunday and March and the first Sunday in April and the extra week from the last Sunday in October to the first week in November will be WRONG once the windows patch goes in place.
This is going to be a nightmare with people getting double booked and people missing meetings.
Subject: What are you doing around the DST changes in North America?
This is really scary. How is this going to affect repeating meetings and reservations that span those two time frames? Just looking at our reservation/resource database, we have over 500 entries just in the affected time frames. Some of them are repeating meetings, too. How is all this going to affect peoples personal calendars?

I do not know if anyone is still following this thread. I am working for a client who has had me doing extensive testing on this particular subject. We have found some holes in the DST plan as posted on the web and those have been since revised.
To those of you still just looking at this issue, keep checking back to the following link as IBM/Lotus are updating these as issues are found. DST is apparently a work in progress:
As for the issue with people creating meetings, the agent that Lotus has published to the web works. Note that you only have to be concerned if you are running release 6.x and above. Version 5 of Notes does not store the TimeZone data in each calendar entry. Unfortunately the newer version of Notes (including DWA) store the TimeZone info right in each and every calendar entry. This TimeZone info has the DST rules embedded within them. For this reason Lotus produced the following agent:
The solution proposed by Lotus is to have each user run this agent. This is not practical in large organizations. Therefore we have modified this agent to run as a scheduled agent against request document. I created the request documents to be very simple; ServerName, UserName, MailFile, and a status. The agent is set to run on all servers (*) at 1:00am. The agent will only process the requests that have a status of pending and the user is on the server that is running the agent. The agent then uses the information in the request to open the users mail database and then the Lotus code is called. We update the calendar entries only!!! I have commented out the notifications and calendar processing as we intend on updating all mail files including the resource.nsf. Due to the number of users in our environment, I populate this database by reading in all Person documents from the Domino Directory via an import agent.
If you want more information on this, let me know and I can send you a copy of it. Since this is a one time deal, the database is very simple!

So what are the order the steps should be taken in?
Patch the computers/server OS, then patch up Lotus/Domino?
Can you tell me in what order you are resolving this problem?
I’m reading the links from Lotus and am getting more and more confused. I read one document and there’s 10 different links in that document. I click on the link and there 10 more links.

Hi Joseph,
First, find the affected software (Lotus Notes, DWA, Domino, Tivoli) or hardware (OS - Linux, Microsoft, SUN) or devices like BlackBerry, Treo.
As you said you will need to update you OS (Servers, clients) first. Depending of your OS(M$ or Linux), you have different steps to accomplish.
Then you will have to run the agents provided by IBM (For calendar entries and resource database entries)
Depending on your notes version(Client), you may need to tweak the Notes.ini. You may use policies to do that.
You can look here—.
We produced a document describing the situation for our customers. This document provides links towards the various suppliers(IBM, Microsoft, SUN, Linux, JAVA). http://www.neuro-design.com/news.jsp?&id=22
…it’s only in french but the links are in english.

I’ve seen a lot of discussion around the DST changes as they relate to the calendar, but I haven’t seen much of anything in regards to custom built applications.
Has anyone thought through a stradegy of what to look for in custom applications that may cause a problem with the new DST settings?
Subject: RE: What are you doing around the DST changes in North America?
Agreed, but I guess I was thinking more along the lines of using something like TeamStudio Analizer to scan a large number of databases for potential problems. You’d think someone somewhere would have put together a list of “flag” elements that would indiate a potential issue with DST.
