I have a Lotus Notes email user that when she clicks on “Mail” from the Welcome page it starts out showing mail from a folder instead of starting at the “InBox”. She can click on the Inbox fine, but I don’t know what causes the client to point to the a instead of the Inbox.

this may happen when the Notes crashes or not closed properly while working on that folder
Try:
Refreshing the db desing from template
make sure $Inbox is the default folder
make sure the famesets have appropriate values
change the contents of mail view framest to something else and then set it back to $inbox
