Webmail (sigh)

We’ll go on the assumption that IBM still actually supports this stuff, even though it’s been broken more over the years than it has ever worked…

Webmail

client platform XP SP2 / firefox 3.05

Server: Win Server 2003; Domino 7.02 FP2

mail template: DWA7

Issue: can’t send or reply. “Domino Web Access Warning. Sorry, we were unable to process your request at this time. If you are unable to continue working in your mail file, please dismiss this warning and then select View, Refresh from your browser’s menu.”

What is NOT the issue: It’s not a pop-up blocker issue, nor an ACL issue, nor a signed agents issue.

Applied fix (new cabs, dlls and form db’s) as per this:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&context=SSPQ5C&dc=D420&dc=DB510&dc=DB530&dc=DA600&dc=D410&dc=DB550&dc=D100&dc=D430&uid=swg24014828&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=all

Applied fix as per this:

Cause Firefox 2.0.0.10 and later includes the following security fix related to jar: URL scheme:

This fix breaks various functionality in DWA which relies on signed scripts because the Domino Web Server does not have the proper MIME type mapping for .jar files specified within the httpd.cnf file (located within the Domino server’s root data directory); hence, the dwagss.jar file is served up with the default MIME type of application/octet_stream.

SPR# KMOA79C8WX - Signed scripts fail to load in Firefox 2.0.0.10. The fix for this problem is to make the signed script archive file served with correct MIME content type.

Fixed in Release 8.0.1; 7.0.4

Best workaround if Web server is using Web Site Rules:

Create a Web Site rule to override the response headers for the /dwagss.jar file and set the Content-Type response header to application/java-archive

Best workaround if Web server is not using Web Site Rules:

Add the following entry to the /httpd.cnf file. This will resolve encountered regressions in DWA after upgrading to this browser:

AddType .jar application/java-archive # Java Archive

Applied fix as per: putting on hula skirt and dancing around server. (actually more useful, as it burns off calories.)

ANY OTHER IDEAS?

The continuing webmail issue year after year after year is making end users hate Lotus Notes even more for their email. Gah.

Subject: Webmail (sigh)

Well the problem is this:

Webmail

client platform XP SP2 / firefox 3.05

DWA doesn’t work in Firefox 3. IBM won’t support that configuration.

I don’t know if Domino 8.5 supports it. Probably not, since it hasn’t been out long enough. Maybe in 8.5.1 and 8.0.4? But I doubt you will ever see a fix for this for version 7.

Sorry.
