I can no longer access mail via the web browser. Prior to today we just linked straight to the mail file and entered the username and internet password. Now the signon box appears but keeps reappearing after the signon attempt and the mail file won’t display. Finally the Error 401 User not authenticated page displays. I have stopped and restarted the HTTP server without any success. No changes have been made to the server settings and all settings appear to be correct. Any help is appreciated.

Check the ACL → Advanced “Maximum Internet name & password” setting
Subject: Web mail not authenticating - Any resolution?
Experiencing the same problem, shortly after Domino Web Access was tested on the server.
Can’t access any DB with my creds.
Creds work fine on another server.
It started that it would let a user in once, then not again, (even after clearing cookies) This isn’t the case for myself.
It just won’t let me authenticate at all.

Here’s what I’d test (maybe you already have):
Are others having this issue or is it just you?
Can you open another database on the server that you should have access to (maybe the nab). Go directly to that url ie: yourserver.com - if you can access, then you know your password is good and your rights to the server are good - then you can focus on your mail file. Maybe the ACL is corrupt on your mail file.
If no go getting to another database:
You’re http password was reset or messed up, reset it on your person document.
if you use groups for ACL purposes, the group could be corrupt in your NAB (you won’t be able to tell simply by looking at it). Recreate it. Delete the old one, don’t try to edit the existing document.
You could be in the deny access group.
You’re certificate could have expired on your Notes ID.
You’re person doc could have been set to “lockout id”

I appreciate your response. I have checked the above and this is what I have found. I can only open databases that have default access set to at least reader. Any database including my mail file set to No Access as default prompts for username and password as it should but does not authenticate. I only have full use access when the ACL default is set to Manager. I have reset my internet password and removed and replaced my name in the ACL and set as Manager. Problem still occurs. Other people on same server have the same problem. I am not sure what happened to the authentication on this server. We are running a mixed R4.6/R6 environment and I’m concerned that something replicated from NAB on the R4.6 server that may have caused this, however everything was running fine for about a month on the new R6 server and suddenly quit working. I am the only one with Admin access and did not make any changes. Any other suggestions?

I just noticed that when I send a New Memo (after setting ACL default to Manager) it shows my name and says below it “Sent by: Anonymous”.

I guess since there is no authentication taking place it sends it “anonymous”.
