In the future any databases that build will have to be web based. Are there any suggestions as far as websites and books that I can use to familiarize myself with this type of task?

Start with the web related stuff in the redbook Domino 6: A designer’s handbook and then go to codestore.info. After you read all articles and blog entries and tried all downloadable samples, you’ll be an expert in web development.

I’m sounding like a broken record with all of my responses tonight suggesting Ext.nd for Domino web development. 
But seriously, you should check it out for web enabling your notes applications.
