Subject: web application

ProblemWhen executing a @DbColumn or @DbLookup function in IBM Lotus Notes, one of the following error messages may be returned to the client or to the IBM Lotus Domino Server console instead of the data:

"Paragraph or field cannot be larger than 64K bytes"

"ERROR: The specified database lookup generated more than 65,000 bytes of results, which is too large for Notes to handle in this context."

  "Memory allocation exceeded 65,000 bytes"

Solution

This issue was reported to Quality Engineering in SPR# CWG3JZ9CF and SPR# TGOO4VB3W5 and was fixed in Notes/Domino 6.0. Starting in Notes/Domino 6.0 a lookup function can access return greater than 64k of data. The Notes user interface and fields are still limited to presenting 64k of data, so if the returned lookup data set is greater than 64k then it must be reduced in size using functions or formulas (for example, by using @Subset).

Workaround:

The @PickList function does not have the same limits as the @DbLookups. The @PickList function has different characteristics from the @Db functions:

* The function is useful in buttons, manual agents, paste agents, form actions, and view action formulas.

* It is not recommended for use in Keyword fields.

* It does not offer a NoCache option.

* It does not work in column formulas, selection formulas, mail agents, scheduled agents, hide-when formulas, window title formulas, or form formulas.

* You cannot use the function in Web applications.
