Web Access Problem

I have a web application. I changed the ACL level for a group from Author to Reader and the users could not access the application.

I changed the group’s ACL back to Author, and added Create Documents back (changing to Reader automatically removed that), but the users in that group still can’t get access.

What else could be wrong? I’m in dire straits here, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Have you given the server’s cache a chance to clear and see the new credentials?

At the server console, type “drop all” (without the quotation marks) and tap the Enter key to clear all user sessions.

Then immediately type “dbcache flush” and tap the Enter key.

Now ask one of the user’s you’ve changed back to having author access to log back in to Lotus Notes and try to access the database.

Hope this helps!

Sorry; just noticed you said “Web App” (it’s late and I’m tired

Anyway, once you’ve made your ACL changes, restart the HTTP service to clear out prior HTTP sessions.

At the console - Tell HTTP quit

Once the HTTP service has shutdown, type

Load HTTP

That should clear up any issues with old session credentials.

Thanks. I don’t have access to the server, but it seems to have fixed itself after a few minutes, so I guess the server’s cache just had to catch up.

May I ask another question: I want to change these web users from Author access to Reader access, but that breaks the application entirely. What might cause that problem? Shouldn’t they be able to get in, but only read documents, just not edit them?

Thanks,

-Jeff

There are several possibilities. Likely there is a field or form event which tries to create or modify a document or profile document. How does it “break the application entirely”? Are there errors in the server log.nsf? What errors does the user see?

Be careful restarting the HTTP task. I have seen numerous servers where the HTPP task will crash as it closes down, necessitating a server restart.
