We should lighten up

Hi people.

I am a recent convert to Notes and Domino - we have just bought in (at my recommendation) and I roll out our fist app this week.

I have noticed that there are a lot of “Notes is dead/rubbish/slow/etc.” threads on this forum recently.

I read this forum before buying in. If these threads had been about then I would have gone elsewhere - the prophecies of death would be self fulfilling!

True, all is not perfect. Notes is a bit fat and slow, the designer a bit clumsy in places, and these things need to be raised. But in the right way…

Raise issues with IBM. Raise specific issues on here - we can work on solutions as a community.

If we all say Notes is dead then it is!

Come on people, lets be a positive, proactive community.

Blog about the good things. Lets have a ‘Powered by Domino’ logo on web sites. Lets push things forwards rather then reminisce for the halcyon days.

Dave Smith out.

Subject: I don’t disagree but …

From my limited perspective (in my little world) Notes is on shaky ground. Hopefully that’s not the case on a higher level, but the “gripe” posts are a way of highlighting where Notes can be better, and therefore have a stronger future.

I do agree that more success stories would be marketing that sure wouldn’t hurt. However, posting here how great Notes is isn’t going to change much.

For the record, I think Notes is great, wish it was more stable and easier to work with, and would be happy to work with it for years to come. I love its power and flexibility, even when you only use the basics it offers.

I don’t think this should be some prozac tinged happy-land where all issues are ignored and we all follow the yellow brick road. This isn’t an Apple forum!

Let’s focus on real, accurate issues identified and explained in a rational way by intelligent people.

Constant doom mongering is as useless as blind fanboy-ism.

Subject: Welcome aboard…

I wish you could have seen her in her day. She was a beauty, lean and fast. Now she has gained weight, slowed down, forgets import things, can’t find her records like she used to, has narcolepsy frequently, etc. But she has gained a few new acronyms. Oh, and I hear she can now make a great cup of java.

Hey, I agree that positive energy is important. But negative feedback does not necessarily mean a negative attitude.

Maybe you made your decision in the absence of all of the data. Maybe you should have known some of this stuff and delayed your purchase? Knowledge is power. But, that means all knowledge, not just censored information. If I read a forum and there are lots of people complaining about the current version of a product, I might wait until a stable release comes out. Why put my customer at risk? See what I mean?

Without sentiment, bug reports are just dummy lights and we woudl all be just robots poking keys.

Subject: “Fist app”… :o)

I wish I could send one of those out to my users some days…

With my typing skills who can tell what my code will do?
