We locked ourself out of ACL! Please help

We have a group listed as manager in one of our users’ mail database. However, the user type of this group was entered as “Person” instead of “Person Group.” Now that we need to change this user’s Last name but has no way to change the ACL of her mail database. The other manager access is the Server but we don’t have notes client installed on the server and really don’t want to shut the Server down to do this. Is there any way we can change the ACL?

Full Admin Access should let you do it. Use your admin client and turn on Full Access, then open the NSF and change the ACL.

Then make sure to turn off your Full Access.

Thanks!!! It worked.

The only way I know how to do this is to create an id with the exact name as the group listed as manager, then switch to the id and edit the acl.

You do not need to shut server down, go to the Lotus Domino directory on server and run “nlnotes.exe” (best to do this from “Run” command in WIndows) - this is a light client on the server and you should be able to open and change teh ACL of the database from here

Subject: Not always a great idea

Hitting local NSFs whilst the server is running can lead to database corruption.

Yep, and why try your luck, if there is an “official” and easy to manage way around it? For more than 5 years now … and still the old hacks come up again …
