Was my sent mail read?

With GroupWise a user was able to get a property on their sent email that displayed whether or not the email was actually opened. Is there anything in Notes like that?

Thank You.

Mich, do I understand correctly? YOU want to know when an e-mail you send to ME is actually read by ME? If so, that takes a return receipt on the message you send.

The only thing you get in Lotus is a Return Reciept. However, that will only go back to you if the user actually opens the e-mail, or, AFAIK, opens it in the preview pane.

Subject: Why do you say “However?”

Your answer was exactly what was asked for, not somehow less than that. And btw, the preview pane thing is controlled by a user preference:

…and you actually have to go in and select to receive a return receipt.

Thank you for the quick response. It’d be nice to see a feature like the one found in GroupWise, added to the Notes client.

Not practical in the NSF store. In Groupwise (and Exchange), the message only actually exists in one location – it’s all one big, happy message store, so there’s no work involved in tracking down the originating database, determining whether or not a copy of the message actually exists in the sending database and marking the document if it exists. In Notes, there’s your copy in your sent view in your mail database, and the recipients copy in the inbox of his/her mail database.

The administrator can see this information using Message Tracking, so it should be possible to add it to the Notes Client.

The administrator gets to see this information even if he/she does NOT have access the read the recipients messages.
