Waiting for DNS Availability?

Hi,

Our ND6 SMTP Server is configured to use 5 mail.box databases. Each one currently has a message that appears and I can identify the destination domain. However, if I do a “tell router sh pending” on the Console, I receive the following:

MSGS State Via Destination

12 WaitingForDNS Waiting For DNS Availability

Instead of showing the actual destinations of these messages.

I checked this Server’s ability to get to the destination domains and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with DNS Lookups as I can ping these destinations by name.

Can someone please shed some more light on this?

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Waiting for DNS Availability??

Hi Thomas,

Software: Windows 2003 Server set up with DNS server, Domino 6.01 set up with SMTP.

I had the same problem. Both ping and nslookup worked very well on the server, so at first

I didn’t think the DNS was a problem, even though the Domino console told me so.

Here’s how I solved it:

I connected to the Internet through ADSL. The server is connected directly to the ADSL box.

When I run “ipconfig /all” I got this status (simplified):

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 3Com 3C920

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Ethernet adapter ADSL:

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 3Com EtherLink

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.151.243

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . :

PPP adapter DialUp ADSL:

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 80.213.38.24

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 80.213.38.24

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 130.67.60.68

                                   193.213.112.4

As you can see the first adapter is connected to the LAN. The second ethernet adapter

is used to connect to the ADSL-box. The PPP-adapter is a Dial-Up connection.

The solution to this problem was to specify a DNS-server for the second adapter

(I didn’t need do this on R5 …?).

Then all messages ran smoothly out on the internet!

Hope this gives you a clue.
