Virtualization

Hi all,

I’m trying to understand if Domino is supported in a virtual enviroment. I have read the 8.02 release notes and they are saying that Domino dont bother about if the OS is virtual or not they only care if its a supporter operating system.

But one the other hand our Domino support contact say that only vmware, sun and IBM virtualization is supported. I’s there anybody who can help me with this issu.

I would like to know if its from a domino point is ok to run Domino in server2003 as a quest in SLES10sp XEN3

Best regards

Domino can run in a virtualised environment no problem, it only cares what the host operating system is

I think that in terms of the officially supported environments there would only be a problem if you had a problem with the server that IBM hadn’t seen before - they may ask you to recreate in a ‘supported’ environment first before looking into it.

Only my 2 pence worth though, you could always check with IBM

Subject: Domino Support in a VMWARE env

“When a customer calls in with a standard usage or defect-related service request, and indicates that they are running on VMware ESX Server, IBM Technical Support will make best efforts to resolve the problem. We will assume that the problem is common to both native and VMware environments, and we will only require the customer (or the VMware SupportLine team) to recreate the problem if there is an indication that the problem may be unique to the VMware environment. If the client has purchased an IBM ServicePac Agreement (for VMware), the IBM VMware support team can assist in reproducing the problem in accordance with the terms of that agreement.”

Gents,Thanks for your reply’s. But if I want to use XEN or god forbid MS HyperV or any other virtulization technology there is.

In my point of view there should not make any difference what I use as long its a supported OS, and the OS is a supported guest in the virtualization software. But is that IBM opinion too?
