Views and multi-value fields

I have a database that makes use of many multi-value fields to form a table of associated values. So, for instance, I record product names in one array, number of licenses in another and date shipped in yet another. Together these form a ‘configuration’ entry in my table.

This is all fine but I find myself really struggling when it comes to displaying these values in a view. In particular I want to code a column formula that shows the number of licenses but only for specific product names.

Effectively this is:

if namearray(x) = “Prod1” then show numberarray(x)

but where x is variable of course.

Any ideas?

This is a very common issue with multiple multi-value fields in documents that are displayed in views. There really isn’t any great solution.

Some possibilities:

  • You can jam the info into a single column.

  • You can create mini reporting (view) documents when your doc is saved, each mini document containing one ‘row’ from your multi-value fields.
