We have a group email address and would like to have it as a mailbox, is it possible that from our regular “mail” database we could have a link to this other mailbox, the most important thing being able to tell if new messages where in this other mailbox.
Our concern is that it may not get checked if we have to open it to check for new mail…
We don’t want to have this 2nd mailbox open all the time

You could make a link, (a bit like an archive database link?), but if you just want a nudge whenever your 2nd mailbox gets mail, set up a simple rule that triggers on All documents and sends the header of the mail onto a person or persons.
With the unread mark count on folders, you could use a second rule in the first mailfile to put these header emails straight into a folder, and the count would go up when new mail arrived.
