View Showing list of Databases in a specific Directory

Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to have a view in a database the will list the databases in a specific subdirectory by their titles a filename. Also, if the user clicks on the record it will open up the specified database.

My goal is to have a database that can be used as the directory of a specific list of multiple databases (they all have the same design except for the main database) so the user does not have to browse the directory hierarchy of the Domino server.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve written once a tool called AutoAdmin, which did exactly that. It listed server’s databases with their various properties like size, title, filename, path, database properties, etc… in a view.

The tool is not quite finished yet, but I could send you a draft to get you an idea how it could be done. I’ve also designed some performance boosters, for example that you don’t need to ask remote servers for their databases and their properties, but rather call an agent in the remote database to do the job for you. That way you can get a list of all databases on any server within seconds, rather than have to wait minutes for slow network connections.

I am interested in taking look at this. Is this called through a form or does it retain the list as a view and update is periodically or a manual action.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Why not use the catalog and just add a view by directory? It has all the dbs you choose to make public in the catalog, has the title, directory, access to view or load/add the db, pretty much everything you want.

Subject: How about publishing a DB library of the DBs you want the users to access?

DATABASE MANAGEMENT

Publishing databases in a library

To publish a database in a database library means to add a database to the library. Unlike a database catalog, which lists all the databases on a server, a library contains links to selected databases from one or several servers. For the convenience of different user groups, there can be more than one library on a server.

To publish a database in a library

  1. Make sure you have Author or higher access in the database library ACL.

  2. From the Domino Administrator, select the server that holds the database you want to publish to the library.

  3. On the Files tab, select the title of the database you want to publish to the library.

  4. Choose File - Database - Publish.

  5. Select the database library title from the “Available libraries” list, and click OK.

  6. Enter information in the following fields, and then close and save the database document:

In the Abstract field, type a short description of the database to serve as the description that appears next to the database’s title in the database library.

In the “Long Description” field, type a more complete description of the database contents that appears when you open the database document.

To delete a database from a library

  1. In the database library ACL, make sure you have Author access to a database to delete the database documents you’ve created and Editor or higher access to delete documents others have created.

  2. From the Domino Administrator, select the server that holds the database library.

  3. On the Files tab, double-click the title of the database library.

  4. In the Databases by Title view, select the database you want to delete.

  5. Choose Edit - Delete.
