Hello,
I am very new to Lotus Notes, and thats why i am trying to understand the following:
When i receive an mail with an msg attachment i can view it with the lotus notes file viewer. But when i try to open an msg file from Windows explorer i get the message:
An error was encountered while opening a window.
Can i open the viewer on a standalone base, so what is the exe file for this viewer??

Patrick,
When you say a msg attachment do you mean:
(a) an email that has an attachment
(b) OR an email with an attachment that has a .msg file extension ?.
When opening Attached files the Notes client will use the Operating Systems File Associations
So attachments that are .doc open with Word, .pdf open with Acrobat Reader and so on.
If the Attachment in the email doesn’t have a defined file extension Notes doesn’t know what application it needs to use to open it - and should prompt you to select an application to use to open it…
Hope this info helps…

Hello,
It is an mail with an attachment with msg extension.
But i do not have outlook on my pc, and i can still view it within notes. Even if i change the Operating Systems File Associations for msg filies to open with notes i get the same error.
That’s what i don’t understand, i can view it but not open it from the windows explorer…

So it sounds like someone is sending you an Exchange Mail Message to you…
The notes client itself does have it’s own built in viewer that will enable you to view most file types that are attached (You may find that sometimes you loose formatting when you look at some files…no ones perfect!)
BUT…
In the absence of Outlook to open it as an actual file attachment you are going to have a problem…
I personally, can’t think of any other App that will open .msg files
Going forward, Is there any reason why you are being sent these types of attachments in the first place?.
HTH.

Somebody can help with my problem?my case is (b), when I receive an email with attachments that have .msg extension, my Lotus notes automatically open all the .msg attachments and spread them as a content of the email. And they are not attachments anymore.
How can I config to prevent that? I just want to receive the attachments.
(My Lotus Notes is 8.5.2)
