I looked at lotus.com, dw and here and tried to find a document that would guide me on how to install both 6.55 and 7.02 on my desktop. We have both server types and company rules say that we have to develop using the correct designer.
Where can I find that elusive document that shows me what I have to move over to the Version 7 directory?

Amazing, that ReadMe file, isn’t it?

Wouldn’t it be nice! I’ve been consulting for several years and can’t remember when a customer has given me a complete install including Readme files, etc.
Now for the files… Which ones do I have to take over?
Do I take the Notes.ini, or let the installer build it?
user.id
names.nsf
bookmark.nsf
headline.nsf
Mail.nsf doesn’t count because we’ve Exchanged it.
Anything else?

You can copy them manually in your Notes 7 folder. When you will launch Notes.exe(r7), it will ask you for a configuration (Notes.id path, etc). But if your already have a copy of your notes.oid,names.nsf, etc in your Notes7 folder, it will start automatically with the correct configuration.

Depending on how important these supposed issues with OLE etc are, you can also do it without playing around with your registry. I currently run 5.0.12, 6.5.3 and .5.4 and 7 on my machine and utilise them all frequently for development and day to day use.
Our procedure (and there was some swearing before we got to this believe me…) is as follows.
Shut down all Notes.
Rename your Notes 6.x directories with notes 6 or whatever.
Something different from what was installed and written to the registry.
Notes 7 doesn’t allow you to change the install path so you have to.
For paranoia’s sake I usually backup my notes 6 directories inside a directory outside of the normal notes paths as well until install is complete.
Install 7.
Setup various shortcuts which point to the nlnotes.exe in the directory for whatever version you need.
It has to be nlnotes, not notes.exe.
I’m pretty certain that’s it.
You might need to modify your notes.ini in each to reflect the change in directory, it’s been a little bit since I last performed this…
