After updating from 5.11 → 6.0 my Lotus has come very unstable and it crashes several times during the day. I hoped that 6.01 would help with this but nothing has change. I can’t understand why they have relised the software with so many bugs in it (6.00 → 6.01 544 repairs!!!). I wonder is this again something which is depending what kind of computer you are using? I use Fujitsu E-series lifebook with 256Mb RAM and OS is W2k. I’m the test person for this version in our company and I will not update other computers before Lotus can offer me the working version.
Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
I haven’t had any problems at all, either with 6.0 or 6.01. Notes 6 has (so far) never caused my laptop to crash. Other people in our company and customers of ours have also found it to be very stable.
Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
We always run Windows Update before upgrading. Don’t forget to disable anti-virus software. We have many users upgraded from 5.0.11 to 6.0.1. They’re all using Window2000 or WindowsXP. There have been zero problems (shocked the IS dept). These are mostly Dell pc’s and laptops.
Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
I too had the same problem and was unhappy for the two days after upgrading from 5.011 to 6.01 on W2K. To resolve the problem I used W2K to uninstall Notes 6. Then I deleted the remaining files in the Notes directory (including notes.ini). I didn’t touch anything in the data directory or any sub directories. I then re-installed. I’m working fine now! Whew!
Subject: Re. Version 6.01 still very unreliable
I know this probably isn’t a very useful piece of information, but there must be something additional to be causing these crash problems. I haven’t experienced a single crash since a month before 6.0 shipped, and I also ran 6.0.1 for 2 months before it shipped without a crash. My experience of the client is that it’s rock solid.
Many of the ‘bugs’ will have come to light since the release of 6.0 and will be the result of a much larger user base pushing the product harder than during the beta phase. Overall the product was released with a much higher standard of quality tha previous releases.
Subject: RE: Re. Version 6.01 still very unreliable
i agree. very stable build. not perfect, but better than 5.x in my daily work.
Subject: RE: Re. Version 6.01 still very unreliable
yes, the same here. we have updated some clients from 4.65 to 6.0. no crashes till now. we are using winnt 4.0 and winxp.
Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
Sounds like you have a hardware problem to me. I would suggest that you get a copy of a memory test program such as memtest86 (freely downloadable) and let it run on your machine. In every case where we have had random lockups it has been the result of memory errors or other hardware problems and not the result of any Lotus or IBM code.
cheers… jack
Subject: * I am writing this on a Fujitsu E6575 with W2k and all versions of 6, even previews, have been very reliable. You must have some other problem. =B-)
Subject: Much better than 4.x and 5.x previous releases
We have encountered some bugs, but 6.x is much stable than previous releases.
6.0 is fine (to clean install & upgrade)
6.0.1 is fine to clean install
BUT I have had many problems with upgrading notes clients to this version.
Even upgrade from 6.0 to 6.0.1 failed if 6.0 was not installed in the default directory!!!!
Server have been upgraded to 6.0.1
but I have stopped upgrading clients to 6.0.l
Subject: I would look at other factors as this release is the most stable Notes release to date…
From my and my clients’ experiences this is the most stable Notes build I have ever installed. I would look at other external factors in your machine:What other software is loaded? What TSR/tray-based apps are loaded all the time?
Do you keep up with maintenance on the machine, such as checkdisk, defrag, etc.?
Do you keep up with updates on the OS?
Have you kept up with updates for drivers - especially video drivers?
If you upgraded from 5.x, have you kept up with maintenance of your databases and workspace, such as performing compacts?
After checking all of this other stuff and performing maintenance tasks such as defrag, I would do an uninstall and reinstall. I wouldn’t delete the databases and stuff, but I would delete the program files before performing the reinstall “just in case”.
I am in Notes, Designer, and Administrator all day every day, doing hard-core development stuff, and it works like a champ. Heck, I even am running 5.x and 6.x at the same time and it is stable. But then again I am also meticulous about machine maintenance, and I only run what is necessary in the tray, so I try to maintain as stable a “base” environment as possible. But from my personal experience and the experience of others I know, the problem is not with Notes - I can assure you that.

Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
We have upgraded several XP machines. The upgrades went fine, however we are getting frequent NSD errors see thread:
When trying to upgrade a Win2K machine we found the client red boxed, and had to revert to 6.0.
Our test/dev servers all upgraded ok and have not had any significant problems.
In genral we a happy with 6’s stability so far, and having been through numerous upgrades this one is quite smooth. However, as of yet we are not prepared to roll 6 out into full production or to our clients sites (but it should not be far away). Although we are upgrading applications and developing new applications using 6 functionality ready for a production rollout.
Subject: No worries here. More stable than R5. (eom)
Subject: 6.0 very stable to me, 6.0.1 too…
Subject: Ditto on 6.01 being reliable
I haven’t personally had any problems w/ 6.01 on Domino or Notes. Ditto w/ 6.0 though except for a few bugs in the http task causing stuff like form values to be flushed when you hit the back button, etc.

Hi
V6 and 6.01 is very stable.
Have you upgraded your System?
In some cases you could have some problems, yes.
Try to delete the cache files and also the desktop6.ndk File, Compress your Workspace…
If nothing seems to be better…
try it with a Clean Install…
I have no Problem to run Notes 6 on Systems like:
Win 2k, Win XP
Also with Domino Servers…
Win 2k (Server and Workstation) and Linux (Redhat 8.0, 7.2 and SUSE 7.2)
Attention: On Linux Systems lower than 8.0 you must have to install some Upgrades or Linux Version 8.0/8.1 to run Domino V6.01
Subject: 6.0 is VERY reliable
Teppo-I am running 6.0 on WinXP and have not had a single crash. I am doing some heavy web development and it seems more stable than any other version of Notes. I am very pleased with the stability.
I am installing the 6.0.1 update today. If it crashes, or if I experience weirdness, I will report it here.
I suggest you try another test case. The scientific method suggests that a true test cannot be performed on a single sample.

I stopped an upgrade too.When I upgraded 6.0 → 6.01 it happened that,
after reboot, design elements had gone.
No letterheads in the mail, desktop elements
missing. This was a clean 6.0 install !
To correct this problem I changed the settings of the ‘System Colors’ in the ‘User Preference’ from ON to OFF. Now the missing elements showed up again.
I saw this behavior on different PC’s (Win2k).

Subject: Version 6.01 still very unreliable
I have to agree with the 6.01 is unreliable comment I’ve had it running for 4 days and have crashed at least 6 times. I was running 6.0 with no problems thought it was great but 6.01 is horrible. I’m running w2k doing the exact same things I was doing with 6.0 and running into issues and this new nsd software creating logs in my data directory is causing havoc with my machine, I have to always reboot after a crash now. I’m expecting 6.01a out very soon.
