I am having a bit of a small problem.
Is it possible to install lotus notes Version 4.6 and version 6 on the same system.
No need to install a server version or anything like this. Just two simple client installations.
Has anyone some epercience with this and are there some special settings you’ll have to check?
Based on the posts I’ve read here allready in this forum, it seems like you need to apply a different data directory. I am just wondering now, what about the notes.ini file?
Can someone push me a bit in the right direction?

I have Notes 4.6, 5, 6 running on my pc.
Here is how I do it.
Install 4.6x
Move Notes.ini to Notes directory
Zip up the directory
Install 5
Use a different directory name
move Notes.ini file if necessary
Zip up the directory
Install 6
Use a different directory name
Move Notes ini if necessary to Notes directory.
Unzip the zip file
Decide where you want data to go, edit the notes.ini as required.

The simple answer is yes. All that you need to do make sure you use different install directories (program and data). Notes does not use the registry (much) so you need not worry about it!

The only problem with this is that many add-ins look for the last installed version in the registry to choose which directory to use. I always do it so that my main version is the last one I install. In the case of ND6 (which is, as Bill said, very picky) I just rename all of the previously installed notes.ini files, do the ND6 install, and then rename them back again. You also need to move the ini files into the appropriate directory - don’t leave them in the Windows directory if the install puts them there.
I cureently have R4.6, R5 and ND6 all running on the same system, sometimes simultaneously.
