Verify if a document is selected in view panel?

I added an action button above a xpage view panel, that archives the selected document.

Is there a way to verify if a document is selected in view panel (client side javascript)?

I want an alert to appear if no document is selected (Please select a document to archive)

I’m not sure about verifying documents are selected in client-side, but an alternative option would be to handle it by setting a scoped variable in SSJS if no document has bee selected, then running the alert in the onComplete event if the scoped variable has been set.
