Validating a name

Other than declaring a field as a name (the field is already a text list and I can’t can’t change it), what is the best way to validate a name? Specifically, I’m creating a temp document in Lotus Script and emailing it with Send. I want to identify and eliminate the receipieants that will cause the Send to fail. @MailSend handled this better, but I don’t want to use formula language. I’m currently searching the public address books for document with Type = “Person” and FullName = (name of person). I’m editing the names by converting both to common name and then lowercasing when building the query string. This is very, very slow (eight seconds per name on our system).

query = _

{Type = “Person” & } + _

{@Lowercase(@Name([CN]; FullName)) = "} + _

Lcase(CN(TheName)) + {"}

Note: CN() is a function that gets the common name using the NotesName class.

Could you add a second hidden “Name” field who value is based on the text field and validate that way?

No, there are too many name fields for that.
