I recently copied my notes vacation databses from one laptop to another. I can no longer access these databases. I get a message that simply indicates “Database Autosave cannot be found” “Look for database on server”, A replica of this databse cannot be found on the specified server; please try a different server". I have copied other copies of this file name##.nsf, but the system indicates it wants v##.nsf and will not recognize either variation. Have I lost 4 years of information? Are databases made during my previous version of lotus not compatable with this version. 8.0.2. I still have backups of these files is there any chance one of these will work. I also tried closing Notes down and selecting one of the *.nsf file and the same issue occurred.
Subject: autosave error opening database…
Versioning should not be an issue. Applications written in a previous version of notes should “just work” in newer versions.
Encryption/access control could be an issue. Local replicas are by default encrypted to the userID that created them, and Access Control on a database is enforced. However, if you were just moving from one laptop to another, I would assume you also moved your ID file and are logging into Notes as the same user who created the replicas previously?
Then there is the error message about Autosave. Try turning off autosave in the File>Preferences, Basic Notes Client Configuration, top left. This may/may not worked. Since this is the error you are getting, it sounds like this is where the problem is. Either something in the database is telling your Notes client that an autosave needs to be restored, or something in the Notes client thinks that it needs to restore an item (due to a previous client crash, etc.).
If you can get past this autosave message, and assuming you have the proper ID to get past the encryption/ACL, then the database should open for you
Subject: copy to server
if all else fails try copying the db to a server and opening it from there rather than locally.
