I posted the above question before, was understand it is possible to read the 7.02 database if my client is v7.02, although server is v5
thus, can anyone confirm this is not possible, due to the server is version 5? or there is some configuration in server that needed to be changed?
tq.

Hi Will, as i understand you want to connect the R7 client to the R5 server, this should be possible but since there is a lot of stuff that is new to the R7 client like the ODS is different and what is designed in the R7 cannot be run on the R5 server. And many of the functions of the R5 server are obsolete on the R7 client hence there could be many troubles.
IBM claims that the servers are backward compatible and not the other way round.

To put a newer version of a database onto an older version of the Domino server the database needs to be in the format / version of the Domino server.
For example to put a version 7.x database onto a version 5.x server you have two choices.
-
Replicate or Copy database to the R5.x server using the Notes client. The Domino server will automatically put the database into the r5.x format.
-
If you’re manually putting the database onto the Domino server you should first use the Notes client to convert it to r5.x format. This can be done by copying the database and giving the new replica / copy of the database a file extension of .NS5.
For example: Source file is: r7db.nsf so target database should be r7db.ns5
You can then put the r7db.ns5 database onto the server and rename it to r7db.nsf. The Domino server will then be able to successfully access it.

Tq, so far it works with my client v5. From client v7, i made a copy, give it .ns5. than I rename it to .nsf , than copy to data folder of notes client v5, try to open it, and it can be opened.
This is really genius of you, really amazed me how did you know to do this…
