Using quotas to shrink mail dbs?

I’ve tested the quotas on our R6.0.1 Domino server and they seem to work. The user gets a warning first, then an ‘over quota error’ and then the user stops getting their mail. So far so good.

Now to the existing (real) users: There’s one user I’m using for testing; his mail file is almost 400MB and I want to bring it down to 300MB. I set the quota to 300 and warning threshold to 275MB. Nothing happens. E-mails are still being delivered and he doesn’t get any warning.

I tested this with a test user as well; set the quota lower than the current size and nothing happens!

Any thoughts on this? I must be missing something, right?

Thanks in advance for any response,

Remco

P.S. I don’t feel like picking up the phone and calling every user in our system. Sending an e-mail usually doesn’t help either.

Subject: using quotas to shrink mail dbs?

I tackled this problem in R5 and discovered the exact thing you are experiencing. If you set the quota lower than the current size it is effectively ignored. However, if you set the option to not deliver when over the quota, then mail should not be delivered. If you have this option set and it is still delivering mail I’m not sure what to tell you. Perhaps it is a bug in R6 that didn’t exist in R5.

Sorry I can’t help more than that.
